Southside Place is a Type "A" general law city with a population of 1,726 residents. Over sixty businesses are located within the city limits also. The United States Postal Service uses "Houston" for all Southside Place addresses.
In 1925, new bungalow home construction was just beginning as a new park, playground, and swimming pool drew visitors from far away. Southside Place opened on Easter Day in 1925. In June, 1931, the population was 630 residents. On August 3, 1934, city council passed a resolution declaring Southside Place an incorporated city. T.L. Evans, the first mayor, and five council members were elected.
Today, Southside Place operates under a council-manager form of government. Council meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at Town Center. City services include police, fire, municipal court, building construction, water, wastewater, sanitation, and parks.
