[ARCHIVED] City of Southside Place Police Alert

The West University Police Department responded to a home invasion and armed robbery at a residence in the 3900 block of Amherst.

Five black male suspects, one dressed in U.S. Postal Service attire, forced their way into the home after the first suspect knocked on the victim’s door at 11:50 a.m. with a small package. The suspect stated an address and asked the victim to confirm it. As the resident tried to close the door, the suspect put his foot in the door which gave the suspects access into the residence.

Three of the suspects, armed with guns, “corralled the victims,” in the home while they ransacked and searched the home. The suspects left with jewelry in a black minivan, in an unknown direction. West University police and paramedics were on the scene quickly after the incident and determined that none of the victims were injured.

At approximately the same time, a lone male suspect entered the CVS Store / Pharmacy located at 3939 Bellaire Blvd. and robbed the clerk working the cash register closest to the front door.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic Male, wearing a White T-Shirt, Blue Jeans and a red and white cap. The suspect displayed a handgun by lifting the front of his shirt and demanded “give me what you got”! The suspect left the store and drove off in a vehicle parked just a few yards from the CVS.

Both of these incidents are under investigation by the respective jurisdiction and citizens are asked to contact the West University Place Police Department for information regarding the home invasion or the Southside Place Police Department with any information regarding the incident at the CVS store.

Both of these incidents serve to remind us all that we are to be ever cautious and vigilant of our surroundings, etc. said Chief Don McCall of the Southside Place Police Department. In the home invasion incident, the suspect(s) disguised as a postal employee was able to surprise and overpower the resident. In the incident at the CVS, the suspect casually walked in and out of the store drawing little or no attention to himself.

Residents and businesses alike are urged to obtain and utilize the video surveillance technology available, train employees or family members to be on the alert to impostors, and to contact police in the event of any suspicious activity.
